My dad played Morrowind, and I didn’t. Both of us wanted to play Oblivion, but couldn’t. Both of us DO play Skyrim, and I think we both love the series, though we express it differently. :)
I’m lucky to have played all of Morrowind and Oblivion, and some of Daggerfall. What I don’t get about this confession is that they love the “series”—-I mean, if you’ve never played Morrowind, you can’t love or hate it—you just love Skyrim/Oblivion/both. There is so much story you’re missing and so many gaps in the history you’ve seen. :/ You can get a download of Morrowind off of Bethesda’s site, I think, so it’s easy to play/try out. Or, at least read the story…if anything.
There are no better fans than others, there are just fans, if you like it…ok, that’s awesome. But there is a lot more to the Elder Scrolls than Skyrim :3 Everyone would do well to check out the oldies but goodies. Oh! And the Elder Scrolls novels are wonderful, too, I’m so hooked on them <3
